NASA and the Canadian Space Agency announced the names of the four astronauts who will travel around the moon next year aboard the Artemis II rocket Monday.

Forty seven year old Jeremy Hansen, who was born in London and went to high school in Ingersoll will represent Canada. He’ll be a member of the Artemis 2 mission, the first journey to the moon by astronauts since the end of the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972. The Artemis 2 is planned for a November 2024 launch.

The other three astronauts on the Artemis II mission are all American: Christina Hammock Koch, Victor Glover and G. Reid Wiseman. Koch will be the first woman to travel to the moon.

The crew will orbit Earth before rocketing hundreds of thousands of kilometres into deep space for a figure-8 manoeuvre around the moon before their momentum brings them home. The plan is to put a man and woman on the moon in 2025 in service of the ultimate goal: eventually dispatching astronauts to Mars.
