A burn ban has been issued for Chatham-Kent.

The municipality issued the burn ban on Thursday afternoon, saying that all open-air burn permits, both for agricultural and recreational fires (campfires), within Chatham-Kent are suspended effective immediately.

Fire officials expect the ban to be short and are monitoring the situation.


Chatham-Kent will honour Baseball Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins tomorrow.

A full-size replica of the bronze statue of Jenkins that sits outside of the Chicago Cubs’ home stadium has been gifted to Chatham-Kent and is being unveiled at 2pm in front of the Civic Centre in Chatham and is open to the public.

A family-friendly after-party will be held at Sons of Kent, featuring a Family Fun Zone, where the first 300 children will receive a complimentary Rawlings Chicago Cubs baseball, hot dog and beverage.

The unveiling and the after party are open to everyone at no cost.


Some world class chainsaw carvers will be in Bothwell this weekend.

Carving demonstrations, hand carving and some unique pieces.

Everything begins today and tomorrow 8-6pm and Sunday 8-noon. There will be an auction of the carved pieces at 1pm.

All are welcome, free entry to 29996 Bothwell Rd, Bothwell.


Chatham-Kent will host the 2024 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships.

1200 athletes with diverse abilities will participate in a variety of sports. It’ll be held June of 2024.

Chatham hosted the games 26 years ago, in 1997.


The annual RBC Canadian Open is under way at Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Toronto.

After Thursday’s round 1 there’s a four way tie on top of the leaderboard; Aaron Rai, Chesson Hadley, Justin Lower and Listowel’s Corey Conners are tied at -5. A Canadian has not won the Canadian Open in 69 years, since 1954.

Rory McIlroy is the defending champion, he shot a -1 in the first round.

The winner takes home $1.62 million.
