The remaining debris from the tragic Titan submersible was recovered this week.
The sub experienced a catastrophic implosion on its way to the wreckage of the Titanic in June.
All five passengers on board the Titan, a vessel roughly the size of a minivan, were killed shortly after they lost contact with its mother ship about 1 hour and 45 minutes into its dive toward the Titanic. It is believed that is when the implosion took place. The Titan’s failure to resurface started a massive, international search that captured the world’s attention for days.
We have a Fat Bear Week winner.
Fat Bear Week is an annual, single-elimination tournament where voters pick 12 bulky bears in an online brackets-style tournament.
The competition shows off the brown bears of Katmai National Park and Preserve as they complete their transformations from scrawny to “fat” for hibernation.
This years winner is Grazer; she blew her final competitor – Chunk – away. Grazer received 108,321 votes to Chunk’s 23,134 votes. Last years winner, Bear 747, was eliminated in his first round of play this year. Can’t rest on your fat laurels.
The competition has been around since 2014. The average midsummer weight of an adult male in Katmai is estimated between 700 to 900 pounds. Several large brown bears in Katmai can weigh in at over 1,000 pounds by the fall.
