Spring will arrive at 11:06 pm on Tuesday.

St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday.

One of the most recognizable St. Patrick’s Day traditions will take place on Saturday morning when the Chicago River is dyed green.

Since 1962, Chicago has dyed the river green in honor of the Irish in the city.

The tradition started with a dye plumbers used to test for leaks in pipes. Now, the city uses a more environmentally friendly powder made from vegetables.

Forty pounds of powdered dye are used. They have a “secret recipe” for the dye and use three boats to spread it — the first two dump the dye in the river & the third boat mixes it up. It stays green for 24 to 48 hours.

If you don’t like crowds, you definitely want to avoid Niagara Falls during the solar eclipse on April 8.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati says the city expects to attract the biggest crowd in its history on April 8 when upwards of a million visitors show up to watch the full solar eclipse.

To put it in perspective, the biggest crowd Niagara Falls ever had was 12 years ago when Nik Wallenda crossed the falls, with 150,000 people showing up to watch.

Locally, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has released some information about eclipse day including the best spots to view it in the municipality. You can find that info by clicking here.
