April 1st is the 92nd day of the year. There are 274 days remaining until the end of the year.

Today is Easter Monday. There are some stores and offices that will observe today as a holiday.

All federal, provincial, and municipal offices will be closed. There will also be no Canada Post delivery. All branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library will be closed.

CK Transit is running today.

There is no change with garbage or recycling this week.

The Chatham-Kent Film Group will screen Rose today at Chatham Galaxy Cinemas.

Showings at 4 and 7pm. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The next film screening will be held on Monday, May 6th.

Chatham’s TJ Brodie played his 900th NHL game on Saturday night vs Buffalo.

He didn’t collect any points in the 3-0 win, but he did get a 10 minute misconduct and was kicked out of the game.

The 33 year old started his career with the Calgary Flames, and has played the last five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. TJ’s will be a free agent following the season.

The most NHL games for a Chatham-Kent born player belongs to Dave Gagner, who played 946 total games. Brodie is second on that list.

We might need to subtract a Leap Second from our clocks in a few years. We’ve added them before, but never removed one. It could cause issues for computing systems, kind of like Y2K.

Activity in Earth’s core and on the surface can make our rotation vary, so it’s necessary sometimes. Right now, we’re speeding up.

They thought we’d need to subtract a second in 2026. But the study found losing ice at the poles could be slowing things down. Now we may not need to subtract a second until 2029.

Today is April Fools Day.

Many say the custom of playing practical jokes on this day originated with the reform of the calendar when New Year’s Day was moved from April 1st to January 1st. Those who clung to the old New Year’s Day were scoffed at as ‘fools’ and sent fake party invitations and prank gifts.
