After 67 years on the Las Vegas Strip, the Tropicana Casino will close it doors forever today.

The demolition is set for October; afterward, it will be the site of a new ballpark for the Major League Baseball team the A’s.

The Tropicana opened on Las Vegas Boulevard in 1957, it was the most expensive resort that had ever been built in the city. It was the “glitziest” resort on the strip and all the A-listers stayed there. But in the decades since it hasn’t been able to keep up with the neighbouring resorts.

The gaming floor will closed at 3 a.m., and the when the last hotel guests check out by midday, its the end of an era.

The Powerball jackpot is now up to $1.09 billion. That’s with a ‘B’, billion.

No one matched the six numbers drawn last night, continuing a three-month winless streak for the top prize. The last win was on New Year’s Day.

That’s a lot of money, but it isn’t the biggest Powerball jackpot ever. That was just last year in November when someone in California won$2.04 billion.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday

**Reminder: There are no restrictions that prohibit Canadians from playing the Powerball lottery. Be aware and very careful of websites offering to sell to Canadians.
