Day 3 in Paris at the 2024 Summer Olympics saw Canada grabbed some more hardware.
Canada won their first gold medals, with Christa Deguchi becoming Canada’s first ever Olympic champion in judo. Summer McIntosh won gold in the women’s 400m individual medley.
Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray won Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event, diving to bronze. Canada’s previous best Olympic result in the event was fifth place.
Canada now has 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Canada’s women’s basketball team lost their opening game of the tournament to France, 75-54. Chatham’s Bridget Carleton and the Canadian Women’s Basketball team will play Australia on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. You can watch on CBC.
Ridgetown’s Chris von Martels is scheduled to compete today in dressage qualifying. He went to Paris as an alternate, but was added to the three-person team last week.
As of this morning, The U.S.A. has 20 total medals, but Japan has more Golds, with 6.
The annual Athletes’ Fuel Cup hockey tournament begins tonight at Thames Campus arena.
Game 1 begins at 6:30. The final night of the warm up tournament is Tuesday, August 20th.
Some of C-K’s best hockey players get ready for the season in a tournament that includes NHL defenceman T.J. Brodie, AHL all-star forward Seth Griffith and OHL grad Deni Goure of Grande Pointe.

Over the weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays traded their longest tenured player, Danny Jansen to the Boston Red Sox. Now, some history could be made in August after the trade.
MLB suspended the Jays/Red Sox game June 26th in the second inning for rain. Jansen started the game for the Jays. On August 26th, the suspended game will be played and if he starts for the Red Sox he could become the first player in MLB history to play for two teams in the same game.
Quite the feat.
