Another day, another medal for Canada at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics on Day 5.
Ilya Kharun became the first Canadian man to win an Olympic medal in swimming since London 2012. The 19-year-old is bringing home bronze in the men’s 200m butterfly.
Canada’s appeal to FIFA was dismissed. The Canadian women’s soccer team six-point penalty stands after the team was caught using a drone to spy on New Zealand team practices before the start of competition at the Games. With all that done, if they wanted to move to the quarterfinals they would need to beat Columbia – and they did, holding on for a 1-0 victory. Canada is the defending women’s soccer gold medallist. They’ll play Germany on Saturday.
Chatham’s Bridget Carleton and the Canadian Women’s Basketball team will play their second game this morning at 7:30 a.m. You can watch on CBC.
Canada now has 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and 3 Bronze.
As of this morning, China now has 9 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze, but the U.S.A. has the most total medals with 30.
Who needs the Olympics when you have the 2024 Snail Racing World Championships in England.
They just happened last month, but snail news travels slow (rimshot).
They put them all in the middle of a table with a ring at the outer edge, and the snail that makes it to that ring first wins. This year’s champion was a snail named Jeff. He clocked in with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 5 seconds.
