August 26, 2024
August 26, 2024 5:55 amAugust 26th is the 239th day of the year. There are 127 days remaining until the end of the year.
The final week of Summer break is going to be hot. Like really, really hot.
Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for Chatham-Kent for today and tomorrow.
Sun, cloud and the possibility of a thunderstorm today and tomorrow with a high of 32, add in the humidex and it’ll feel like the high thirties to low forties.
These hot temperatures may last through Wednesday, but that depends on the shower and thunderstorm activity Tuesday evening. Cooler temperatures are expected by Wednesday night.
The Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool is closed until September 3rd.
Some maintenance work is being done on the pools.
All outdoor pools in the municipality are now closed for the season. Municipal splash pads will operate through Labour Day weekend.
The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers season is over.
The Barnstormers fell in three straight losing the best of 5 quarterfinals to the Guelph Royals. They lost game 3 last night 14-0.
Team owner Dom Dinelle will be In the Dugout with CKMORNINGS tomorrow morning to recap the season and look ahead to 2025.
Catcher Danny Jansen will make history this afternoon at Fenway Park.
Jansen is now a member of the Boston Red Sox. He will become the first player ever to play for both teams in the same game when the Red Sox resume their suspended game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Today’s game is the resumption of a game that was suspended by rain on June 26th in the second inning. Jansen started that game behind the plate for the Blue Jays. He was traded to the Red Sox later in the season.
It gets weirder: Jansen was at bat when the game was suspended. He fouled away a pitch, then the umpires called for the tarp, and the game was unable to be resumed. When the game begins today, where it left off back in June, the Blue Jays will have a runner at first base with one out in the top of the second inning, and the batter who replaces Jansen in Toronto’s lineup will start with his 0-1 count.
Both games will be on Sportsnet beginning at 2:05 and 7:10.
Beginning in September drivers will have to pre-pay for fuel at most Petro-Canada stations in Ontario.
Petro-Canada is implementing the policy at majority of its stations in the province after the Labour Day long weekend.
Pre-paying is common in other provinces. Fuel theft is the reason for pre-payment, some provinces say theft is up 70% year to year.
