September 12, 2024 5:30 amSeptember 12th is the 256th day of the year. There are 110 days remaining until the end of the year.
The Terry Fox Run will take place this weekend around the world.
This annual fundraiser carries on Terry’s dream of raising funds for cancer research in Canada.
When Terry was 18-years-old, he lost his leg to cancer. After going through 18 months of treatment, he couldn’t ignore the suffering he saw in cancer wards. Terry decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research in the Marathon of Hope. In 1980, Terry ran all day, every day, for 143 days. On September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay. Cancer had spread to his lungs. Terry died in June 1981.
Locally Terry Fox Run’s will be held Sunday:
Dresden: Starts at Dresden Legion at 10 a.m.
Wallaceburg: Starts at Civic Park at 10 a.m.
Tilbury: Starts at Tilbury Arena at 11 a.m.

With about a week and a half to go until fall officially arrives, it looks like we might be in for a fairly mild season.
The Weather Network has released its Fall Forecast and predicts that most of Canada will see a slow transition into autumn with temperatures in most areas expected to be above normal over the next few weeks.
It’s also calling for fewer fall storms through October for most of Canada.
Speaking of fall, the Fall Harvest Market takes place this weekend in Blenheim at Talbot Trail Place from 9 am-1 pm.
The Fall Harvest Market encompasses a wide variety of things at the park. Artists, vendors and creators will be in the park along with plenty of food options available.
More details on the Fall Harvest Market can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
If you have any travel plans involving Air Canada, you might want to start thinking about a backup plan.
With a potential pilot strike looming for over 5,000 pilots, Air Canada is preparing to suspend its operations, a move that would impact thousands of travellers.
Just after midnight on Sunday, the airline will be able to issue a 72-hour strike or lockout notice. If this happens, the airline said it will progressively cancel flights with a complete suspension of operations three days later.
However, Air Canada said several flights may have to be cancelled as early as Friday, to avoid stranding customers.
A $75 million lottery is up for grabs in Canada for the first time ever.
Starting Friday, Lotto Max draw participants can play for a prize of $75 million. In a statement on Wednesday, The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced the $75 million Lotto Max milestone. The main jackpot cap has also increased to $80 million.
If the $75-million Lotto Max jackpot is not won on Friday, the jackpot amount will roll to the maximum amount of $80 million for the Tuesday September 17 draw, the largest lottery jackpot available for players to win in Canada.
Tickets are available online or in store until 10:30pm on draw nights.
