Look up tonight to catch a glimpse of the Hunter’s Moon.
The Harvest Moon is the Full Moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox (either before or after). The next Full Moon after that is called the Hunter’s Moon.
This week’s Hunter’s Moon is the closest, biggest, and brightest Full Moon for 2024. That makes it this year’s Perigee Supermoon. According to The Weather Network there are anywhere between two and five supermoons per year. The reason we have supermoons is due to the Moon’s path around Earth. Roughly half of each 28-day orbit, the Moon is slightly closer to Earth, and for the rest, it is slightly farther away. When the timing works out that the Moon is Full when it is either near or at its closest point to the Earth for that particular orbit, we call it a supermoon.
This Full Moon is nearly 16% brighter than the average Full Moon. The best time to see it is when it sets in the west later this morning, or when it is rising again in the east on this evening.
A cool morning, waking up to a Frost Advisory, but sunshine on the way and warmer temperatures for the weekend.
Environment Canada calling for lots of sunshine today with a high of 15C. The sun is here to stay, and it warms up this weekend to a high of 21C on Saturday and Sunday. Sunny skies and low 20’s to start next week, as of right now our next chance of rain, is a slight chance of showers next week on Wednesday.
