October 31, 2024 5:55 amOctober 31st is the 305th day of the year. There are 61 days remaining until the end of the year.
Happy Halloween!
A longtime tradition in Canada, Ireland, the UK, and the USA. Only recently, the celebration has spread to other countries around-the-world.
Students from Ursuline College will be holding their Lancers Scare Hunger food drive again tonight. Between 4:30 – 8 p.m., UCC students (who will be identified) will be going door to door in Chatham, Blenheim Ridgetown and Tilbury to collect non perishables for Outreach for Hunger.
This is the 17th year for the food drive.
Your trick or treat forecast from The Weather Network is saying a high today of 22C. Sun and cloud this morning, a chance of some scattered showers around noon until about 4. By 5 p.m., most, if not all, rain will be gone, but the winds will pick up and be gusting through the evening.
Tomorrow a cold front will end our record-breaking temperatures this week, bringing a high of just 12C.
Don’t be alarmed if you hear any fireworks in Chatham-Kent tonight.
The local Hindu community is celebrating the Diwali holiday. Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions across the world.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent changed its bylaw a couple years back to allow Diwali fireworks. There isn’t anything officially organized by the Chatham-Kent Hindu community for tonight, but individuals may celebrate in the comfort of their own homes.
The LA Dodgers are your World Series Champions.
They came back from a 5-run deficit to beat the New York Yankees 7 to 6 in Game 5. The Yankees retook the lead, going up 6 to 5 before giving up two runs in the 8th.
This is L.A.’s eighth title, and their first since the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Before that, they hadn’t won the World Series since 1988. For the first time in 36 years, the Dodger will get a World Series parade. It’ll go down tomorrow.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has ties to Canada – his father is from Windsor and mother from Oshawa, was named World Series MVP. He batted .300, hit four home runs, and had 12 RBIs.
Here’s an odd stat: a player named Will Smith won a World Series ring for a fifth consecutive year. Dodgers catcher Will Smith won his second ring with the Game 5 win in New York, his first was in 2020. But what about the seasons in between?
That gap was filled by Will Smith. No, the other Will Smith.
That Will Smith is a veteran left-handed reliever who won a World Series ring each year from 2021-23, becoming the first player in MLB history to be on the World Series winning roster with three teams in three consecutive years. He won a World Series ring with the Braves in 2021, the Astros in ’22, and the Rangers in ’23.
