A Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) poll has revealed some statistics regarding fast drivers. Nearly 70% of Canadians admit to speeding in a residential area at least once in the last year.
Half of respondents say they routinely speed on the highway, and 20% of drivers say they regularly drive well over the speed limit. This attitude is lead by the fact that only 35% of us think we will get caught for speeding.
And that speeding isn’t limited to young people. Those 50-plus drivers admit doing it less, but all age groups admitted to exceeding the speed limit on a regular basis.
“Higher speeds reduce drivers’ reaction time and increase the risk to themselves and everyone else,” CAA says. “Speeding increases your stopping distance, making a collision more likely and severe, but it saves you only a small amount of time.”
DYK? 1 in 5 Canadians say they regularly drive over the speed limit.
