December 3, 2024
December 3, 2024 5:55 amDecember 3rd is the 338th day of the year. There are 28 days remaining until the end of the year.
The Chatham Goodfellows Porchlight campaign was a success last night.
Volunteers were spread throughout the community collecting cash, toys and food to make sure No Child is Without a Christmas this season; close to $57,000 in cash was collected this year!
The Porchlight fundraiser is important because it helps purchase vital items for the food hampers that are given to families in need, like turkeys, hams and bags of milk.
You can donate by mailing a cheque to P.O. Box 114 Chatham ON N7M 5K1 or by e-transfer at donate@chathamgoodfellows.ca to receive an automatic receipt.
The annual Goodfellows newspaper Street Sales are next weekend (December 13 & 14) outside of local businesses supporting the campaign. For more information or to volunteer go to ChathamGoodfellows.ca.
The Chatham-Kent Public Library hosts Movies @ Your Library every Tuesday at the Chatham branch.
Book your spot today to see Three Identical Strangers.
Movies start at 2pm.
There’s a blood donor clinic at the St. Clair College Healthplex today from 1-8 p.m.
No walk-in appointments are available. Book your appointment at Blood.ca, call 1-888-2-DONATE or use the apps.
If you’re unable to donate this week, the next clinic locally will be in Wallaceburg Tuesday, December 17th, and back at the Healthplex on December 21st.
The big Lotto Max jackpot up for grabs again tonight!
The jackpot is at its peak of $80 million for the third time, after there was no winner for the Friday night draw. The jackpot has only ever reached $80 million once before, following an increase in cap size in September. The first-ever $80-million jackpot was split between two people in Ontario and Quebec.
Lotto Max is $5 per play and draws take place every Tuesday and Friday. Tickets are available online or in store until 10:30pm on draw nights.
Today is Giving Tuesday.
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Tuesday — a day for people to give back to their communities. For some people, that means donating to a charity or cause they support. For others, it means volunteering their time or skills. It can even be as simple as leaving a thank-you note for a delivery driver or paying for the coffee of the person in line behind you.
It’s been around for 12 years. It was launched in 2012 as a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities.” It was actually started by three tech companies: Mashable, Skype, and Cisco.
Locally, the James A. Beattie Foundation will match all Giving Tuesday donations today to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000. The money will go towards replacing a Fluoroscopy machine at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Go to ckhaf.ca/giving-tuesday to make a donation.
Today marks the 12th anniversary of the first Giving Tuesday in 2012. More than 85 countries are involved now. It is predicted that almost $3.5 billion will be given today.
