Pantone has crowned brown as its 2025 Color of the Year, or PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse to be more specific.
The colour brand described the shade of choice as a “An evocative soft brown that transports our senses into the pleasure and deliciousness it inspires.” Meant to engage multiple senses, the color should evoke a desire to dip your spoon into it. Some people are calling it “a win for quiet luxury” other people say it looks a lot like poop. Or at least the poop emoji.
In 2023 and 2024 Pantone selected shades of magenta and peach, reflecting a desire to celebrate after prolonged COVID lockdowns. Now, with the pandemic in the rearview, the world is ready to embrace a softer, quieter joy according to Pantone
This is the 26th anniversary of the Pantone Color of the Year program. They take it quite seriously, with a team from around the world weighing in. Pantone also works with commercial partners, like Post-it; they will offer sticky notes in a range of hues inspired by Mocha Mousse.
