Earlier this week Starbucks announced it was reversing a policy that invited everyone into its stores.

Now if you want to hang out or use the restroom, you’re going to have to buy something. A new code of conduct – which will be posted in all company-owned North American stores – also bans discrimination or harassment, consumption of outside alcohol, smoking, vaping, drug use and panhandling.

Several years ago, Starbucks launched an “open door” policy, but that filled many locations with homeless people and other non-paying customers who spend all day there “working remotely,” reading books, and writing screenplays.

Starbucks also revealed it will extend its free refill policy on hot and iced brewed coffee or tea to include customers who are not Starbucks Rewards members until January 27th (Who else just found out you can get free refills on some beverages at Starbucks?!)

Previously, only customers who were signed up for the rewards program were able to get a free refill. The refill can be claimed on the same day as your purchase in-store only. To be eligible for a free refill, your initial order must be served in for-here ware or a clean, reusable cup.
