January 21st is the 21st day of the year. There are 344 days remaining until the end of the year.

Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning. The frigid temperatures should last through Wednesday.

If you must go outside during the period of extreme cold, it’s suggested that you dress warmly in layers, cover your fingers, toes, ears, and head, wear a wind-resistant outer-layer, and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Residents are reminded to keep pets inside, as they are also at risk from overexposure to extreme cold temperatures.

The municipality is also reminding people that Hope Haven (183 Wellington Street West, Chatham) is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. as a warming centre. All branches of the Chatham-Kent Library are also available as warming centres during regular operating hours.

Much like yesterday, sun and cloud with some flurries today, high -13, it’ll feel like -28C with the windchill this morning.

The Chatham-Kent Public Library hosts Movies @ Your Library every Tuesday at the Chatham branch.

Book your spot today to see Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart.

Movies start at 2pm.

Donald Trump was sworn in yesterday as the 47th president of the United States.

Tech billionaires, world leaders, celebrities and athletes were among those watching Trump give his inaugural address. The crowd included three of the richest men in the world — Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos.

For months Trump has threatened tariffs against Canadian goods the day he took office, it looks now that February 1st is the day he plans to slap Canada and Mexico with 25% across-the-board tariffs.

There’s a couple of local blood donor clinics before the end of the month.

Saturday at the St. Clair College Healthplex in Chatham from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and next Tuesday in Dresden at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre 2 p.m. to 7 p.m

No walk-in appointments are available. Book your appointment at Blood.ca, call 1-888-2-DONATE or use the apps.

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a splash in the free agent market signing outfielder Anthony Santander.

The 30 year old signed the teams third biggest contract ever, $92.5 million over five years. The outfielder had a career-high 44 home runs and 102 RBIs in 2024.
