February 26th is the 57th day of the year. There are 300 days remaining until the end of the year.

Today is Pink Shirt Day.

Plenty of schools and businesses in the area will be sporting pink shirts today to stand up to bullying and to raise awareness of the issues.

The Pink Shirt Day anti-bullying movement started in 2007 after a Grade 9 student from a small town in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink T-shirt to school. As a show of support and acceptance, two older students purchased 50 pink tank tops and handed them out to male classmates the next day, and Pink Shirt Day was born.

The hashtags #PinkShirtDay, #BeKind and #PinkItForward are all being used.

It’s Movie Night at the Capitol Theatre.

Stop by tonight at 7 p.m. to see The Breakfast Club.

Admission is $7 or flash your movie pass for entry. Check here for more info.

A fog advisory is in place for Chatham-Kent.

According to Environment Canada, dense fog patches have developed in some parts of the municipality. Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise.

Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

The quick. snap of spring-like weather we saw over the past few days is leading to some reminders from officials.

OPP in southwestern Ontario is reminding people to stay away from banks of creeks and rivers. With lake and river ice melting quickly, people are reminded to think twice before venturing out onto any frozen body of water, no matter how solid it looks.

The above-freezing temperatures this week has also prompted similar reminders from local conservation officials.

Temperatures are expected to hover slightly above the freezing mark on Thursday with flurries and drizzle expected.

Finally some good news!

Astronomers say a giant “city-killer” asteroid that previously had a 3% chance of hitting earth, is no longer a threat.

The near-Earth object 2024 YR4 (40–90 metres in width) was found in December by a telescope in Chile. As recently as February 18, it made headlines when experts monitoring and tracking its potential Earth impact had said it had a 3% chance of striking us in 2032.

However, NASA now says its no longer a concern, with the risk of impact at 0.0017%.
