The Ice Bucket Challenge is back.

A viral fundraising campaign that raised millions for ALS research in 2014, has been relaunched by students at the University of South Carolina to tackle a new issue: mental health awareness.

The campaign launched on Instagram in March, and raises funds for Active Minds, a nonprofit whose mission is to mobilize youth and change mental health norms. Participants pour ice water over themselves, post the videos and nominate others to join — all while emphasizing the importance of speaking about mental health.

The campaign just surpassed $100,000 in donations on Friday.

The ALS Association, which originally benefited from the 2014 challenge, has expressed support for the new effort. At its peak popularity, the ALS ice bucket challenge garnered widespread attention, with public figures including former President George W. Bush, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and Derek Jeter among those taking part.

The season opens in May in B.C. The traditional fly-by in Ottawa on July 1st is on the calendar.

So far, the closes to C-K they’ll fly this year will be in London, September 5-7th.

Today is Earth Day.

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions the globe, annually every April 22nd to promote awareness for the health of our environment. The first ever earth day was 1970.

Before 1970, there were basically no laws protecting the environment. Factories could pump out as much smoke as they wanted, or dump toxic waste in rivers, and it was perfectly legal. Earth Day helps raise awareness for environmental causes. According to EarthDay.org, the first Earth Day helped pass the Clean Water Act, and also got U.S. President Nixon to create the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Earth Day 2025 Theme is Our Power, Our Planet, which emphasizes the importance of renewable energy and calls for individuals and businesses to embrace clean energy sources.
