For just the second time ever, a Canadian has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.
Hamilton’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was announced Wednesday as the NBA’s MVP, his first time winning the award. He becomes the second Canadian to win the award, Steve Nash won it twice.
It’s actually now seven straight years that a player born outside the U.S. has won, the longest such streak in league history.

The Beer Mile World Classic is returning to Europe.
After two years in North America (last year in Windsor) the 11th edition is on tap for Saturday, July 26th in Lisbon, Portugal.
The beer mile began back in the 80s, when a group of varsity athletes gathered at season’s end for the underground race. Over time, various teams would post times online and compare amongst themselves to see which city boasted the best beer milers.
The current world record holder is Windsor’s Corey Bellemore. He’s has been competing in the Beer Mile since 2016 and has been the undisputed world record holder, breaking his own records multiple times, including his best in 2021: four minutes and 28 seconds.
The beer mile is four laps of a track, or one mile combined, drinking a beer before you start each lap, for a total of four beers. The basic rules are: the beers must in a 341 millilitre bottle and at least 5 per cent alcohol. And you don’t want to “chunder” aka puking. “Chundering” will cost runners a one-lap penalty, all but eliminating a runner from contention.
We’re in the midst of some quirky palindrome dates; dates that read the same forward as backwards.
As of Tuesday, May 20, there are 10 dates in a row that can be read the same forward and backward:
5/20/25 also written as 5/20/2025
5/21/25
5/22/25
5/23/25
5/24/25
5/25/25
5/26/25
5/27/25
5/28/25
5/29/25
The pattern will repeat in June next year, as the “6” represents the month, and the 26th at the end of the month creates the conditions for a palindrome.
Many consider these to be the “luckiest” days of the year.
