June 27th is the 178th day of the year. There are 187 days remaining until the end of the year.

Could be a mixed bag of weather for our weekend forecast.

The mugginess will stick around for Friday, feeling like 43C with the humidity factored in. We’ll see sunshine on and off with a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Windsor-Essex throughout the day on Friday but not Chatham-Kent.

Saturday and Sunday will see highs around 30C, with a very slight chance of rain on Saturday, but sunshine on Sunday.

Dozens of Wheatley residents have been evacuated from their homes after hydrogen sulfide was detected in the community on Thursday afternoon.

An evacuation centre has been established at the Wheatley Arena. The evacuation site, located at 196 Erie St. N, will be open to affected residents for the duration of the evacuation. No timeframe has yet been established.

Emergency responders are on scene to manage and investigate the situation. Residents are being asked to avoid downtown Wheatley.

At last check, The Wheatley Fish Festival is still set to happen this weekend.

In an update on the event’s Facebook organizers said they will keep residents updated on any changes as needed.

“We want to assure everyone that we are 100% aware of the current situation unfolding in downtown Wheatley. The safety of our community is our top priority, and we’re closely monitoring everything as it develops. We will keep you all posted with any changes to the Fish Fest schedule as soon as we know more. Please stay tuned to our page for real-time updates. We’re still incredibly excited for this weekend — and we promise, nothing is going to stop the fun, food, and festivities of Fish Fest 2025!”

The Fish Festival runs from Friday through Sunday and features live music, vendors, food and beverages and plenty of activities for both kids and adults all weekend at the Two Creeks Conservation Area.

The event wraps up with the Wheatley Fish Fest Car Show at 2 p.m. on Sunday in uptown Wheatley, followed by the boat parade at 7 p.m. and the Fish Fest fireworks finale at 10 p.m. at Wheatley Harbour.

Free family fishing week kicks off this weekend in the province.

It’s one of only four times a year, that Canadian residents can fish in Ontario for free. This means you do not need to buy a fishing licence if you want to fish during free fishing week.

It will also be the last chance of the year to fish without a licence.

Free Family Fishing week runs from June 28–July 6.

CK Recreation will hold their first SummerFest event of the season this weekend.

The Play Rangers will be at Kiwanis Kids Day in Ridgetown on Sunday and feature free interactive games and playful activities.

That’s just one of the many things to keep busy with this weekend in CK.

On Sunday, the Merlin Legion will also hold its 17th annual Community Family Fun Day. The event starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. with fireworks. There will be music, food, drinks, games, activities, and even a petting zoo to enjoy throughout the day.

The First Ever Tart and Soul Butter Tart Festival launches on Saturday at Sons of Kent Brewery.

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers will also be busy with two home games this weekend. The Barnstormers take on the Kitchener Panthers at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and the Guelph Royals at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday, before their Canada Day game on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. against Brantford.

Rogers Stadium is set to open its doors for the first time this weekend.

The 50,000 seat venue will host its first show on Sunday when K-pop group Stray Kids takes the stage.

The temporary, open-air venue is located at the former Downsview airport and is Toronto’s largest venue.

Parking is limited at the stadium, if you’re headed to a show there this summer you’re being urged to use public transit.

Live Nation has announced it will be offering free transit rides home all summer.

In a media release, the company stated it will foot the bill for “free rides home on the TTC and GO Transit after all 14 shows at Rogers Stadium this summer. Following shows, fans will be able to take the subway from Sheppard West, Downsview Park and Wilson Stations as well as the GO train from Downsview Park Station. Both the TTC and Metrolinx are also running additional service on show nights to help manage crowds in the area.”

The stadium is expected to operate in the summer months and will eventually be demolished as the area will be turned into a $30-billion mixed-use urban space over the next three decades.
