After the announcement earlier this week that travellers at American airports will no longer need to remove their shoes because officials have found other ways to keep travellers safe, Canada may follow suit.

Canada does not require passengers flying domestically or to non-U.S. destinations to take off their shoes for screening, unless a security officer decides it’s necessary.

But those flying to the U.S. through the pre-clearance sections of Canadian airports have been required to remove their shoes.

Transport Canada released a statement that it “will work with the Transportation Security Administration to ensure requirements are aligned.”

The 2025 Wife-Carrying World Championships took place over the weekend in Sonkajärvi, Finland.

U.S. couple Caleb and Justine Roesler were crowned champs.

The Wife-Carrying World Championships have been held since 1992. The annual sporting event involves male participants carrying their female partners on their backs through a challenging obstacle course, which features water, hurdles and sand pits.

Not just a test of physical strength and endurance, the championship centers around communication, mutual trust, and teamwork. And a love of brew too, as the winning couple don’t receive a medal or a cash prize but the wife’s weight in beer.
