July 7, 2025 5:55 amJuly 7th is the 188th day of the year. There are 177 days remaining until the end of the year.
Environment Canada‘s Heat Warning that was in place for the weekend, has been lifted.
Today will bring the return of normal early-July temperatures, with a high of just 25C (feels like 32) with cloudy skies and a chance of rain. Hot and dry on Tuesday before some more showers on Wednesday.
The Chatham-Kent Film Group will screen Young Werther tonight at the Capitol Theatre.
Showings at 4 & 7 p.m. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.
The C-K Film Group screens international and independent films the first Monday of the month.
Saturday was the one day of the year when 99% of people on Earth are all technically in sunlight at the same time. It happened at 7:15 a.m. because of something called “astronomical twilight.”
At that exact moment, 83% of populated areas are in full daylight, including Africa, Europe, and most of Asia. Meanwhile, 7% are in twilight, where the sun is rising or setting. And 6% are in “nautical twilight,” where it’s basically dark.
The remaining 3% are in “astronomical twilight,” where the sun is well below the horizon. So to the human eye, it’s dark out. But there’s still a tiny bit of indirect light that only matters if you’re looking at stuff through a telescope. Only 93% of us can actually see any light at that moment. But technically, just 1% are looking at a totally dark sky, mostly in Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea.
It’s National Macaroni Day!
This little elbow-shaped pasta is such a fan-favourite, and one of the most common forms of pasta. So it’s a day to show our love for the humble and versatile macaroni.
The origins of pasta, and macaroni, are not very clear. Records indicate pasta might have originated in China, instead of in Italy as is commonly believed.
National Mac and Cheese Day is celebrated on July 14 each year.
Joey Chestnut reclaimed the Mustard Belt for a 17th time at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on the Fourth of July.
Joey scarfed down a total of 70-and-a-half hot dogs in 10 minutes. He didn’t beat his own personal record though, which he set in 2021 with 76.
He missed last year’s competition due to a conflict of interest over a sponsorship with a vegan hot dog brand.
Joey still won by a landslide though. The second-place winner, who dominated last year in Joey’s absence, only managed to eat 46-and-a-half hot dogs.
