Chatham-Kent is still under a Heat Warning issued by Environment Canada on Friday afternoon.

Environment Canada is saying, “a slow moving cold front will be moving across the area beginning later [Monday] and that will bring an end to the heat event for areas in central Ontario and the northern parts of southwestern Ontario.” They are tracking a system that could bring back the hot temperatures for the weekend.

Residents are reminded when it is hot and humid outside to drink plenty of water, stay in cool, air conditioned places and to wear loose, light-fitted clothing.


The King Street West Reconstruction project is set to start this morning.

The project includes:

  • Reconstruction of King Street West from Lacroix Street to Second Street, including upgrades to the underground infrastructure.
  • Upgrades to surface features including new asphalt pavement, concrete curbs, sidewalks, and streetlights.
  • Replacing the traffic signals at the King Street West and Lacroix Street intersection.
  • A new all-way stop at the intersection of King Street West and Second Street.
  • Watermain replacement along First Street from King Street West to Wellington Street.

The first phase of the project will focus on King Street West from Lacroix Street to First Street and First Street from King Street West to Wellington Street.

A full closure of the King Street West and Lacroix Street intersection will be necessary for a few weeks starting next week and reopened in early September. Detour routes are in place.


The Chatham-Kent Film Group will screen Superboys of Malegaon tonight at the Capitol Theatre.

Showings at 4 and 7p.m. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The C-K Film Group screens international and independent films the first Monday of the month.


The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers regular season home schedule is done.

The Barnstormers destroyed the Brantford Red Sox on Saturday 19-4, and on Sunday the Toronto Maple Leafs won 8-1.

They finished their second IBL season with a 13-8 record at Fergie Jenkins Field, the best home record in the league. They’re in 4th place.

The Barnstormers are on the road to London on Friday and Welland on Saturday before the playoffs begin later this month. Schedule and ticket details have not been released yet.


The 2025 Scrabble Players Championship began this weekend just outside Baltimore.

The annual event is North America’s largest competitive Scrabble gathering, drawing elite players from around the globe who will battle through 31 games for the coveted title.

The grand prize is $10,000, the tournament wraps up on Thursday.
