The Perseid meteor shower will peak tonight with as many as 50 to 80 meteors per hour.

The shower is a result of the Earth-orbiting through a debris field from the Swift-Tuttle Comet, a 26-kilometre wide mass made up of ice and rock.

Astronomers call it “One of the best meteor showers of the year.”

The Perseid meteor shower has been underway since last month but it hits its peak tonight.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is looking for volunteers.

Organizers are looking for about 65,000 volunteers, 6,000 of them in Canada. Toronto and Vancouver are the tournament’s Canadian host cities, with six games scheduled for Toronto’s BMO Field and seven at Vancouver’s B.C. Place Stadium. Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Boston, Atlanta and more will host a total of 48 teams and 104 games across 16 venues.

While you can choose which host city you want to volunteer in, FIFA does not help with travel or accommodation.

Volunteers need to be 18 or older at the time of application, be able to commit to eight shifts between June 11 and July 19, 2026, speak English (with French and Spanish also “desirable” in Canada and Mexico, respectively, with other languages a plus) and pass a background check, among other requirements.

Apply here.

A hairless English-French bulldog mix has been crowned as the winner of the 2025 World’s Ugliest Dog contest.

Petunia is her name and she just won the yearly competition over the weekend. She beat out nine other dogs at this year’s contest. “She’s a mix between Yoda, she’s a mix between a hippo, a bat — she’s got it all.”

For winning, Petunia gets $5,000 cash, a spot on limited-edition cans from sponsor Mug Root Beer and the bragging rights for being selected as the World’s Ugliest Dog. The contest, which has been celebrating imperfection for nearly 50 years, advocates for adopting dogs instead of buying them from breeders.
