Autumn officially arrives at 2:19 p.m. this afternoon.
The Autumn Equinox occurs when the sun moves directly over the Earth’s equator, bringing the same amount of daylight and darkness on that day. We should get around 12 hours of light and dark tomorrow. Tomorrow, the sun will rise due east and set due west, a pattern that will repeat during the spring equinox.
Fall ends on Saturday, December 21st when Winter begins.
Daylight Saving Time will end November 3rd.
The 8th ever International Grave Digging Championship took place in Hungary earlier this month.
The competition brings together professional cemetery workers to see who could dig and refill a grave the fastest while still keeping it neat and tidy.
Each team of two faced the same task—carve out a grave measuring two meters long (about 6.5 feet), 80 centimeters wide (around 2.6 feet), and 1.6 meters deep (just over 5 feet), then replace about 2.5 tons of dirt. Judges scored them on speed, accuracy, and presentation using a 10-point scale. Clean edges and a tidy burial mound carried almost as much weight as finishing quickly. The fastest time ever recorded for the contest was an eye-popping 34 minutes.
This year’s champions were from Hungary and defended their title with a time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, and 20 seconds. Russia’s team finished last, and blamed scorching weather for their finish.
