October 14th is the 287th day of the year. There are 78 days remaining until the end of the year.

Today is a Household Hazardous Waste Day.

Hosted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Waste Connections of Canada Ridge Landfill.

The drop off is at Veolia Environmental, at 141 Prosperity Way from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The last Household Hazardous Waste day for the year is Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous material at no charge. A list of acceptable material can found here.

Heads up, garbage and recycling will be delayed by one day this week because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Download Chatham-Kent’s handy Waste App “Recycle Coach” for reminders on your waste collection schedule.

Download it here for Android and here for Apple.

The Toronto Blue Jays have dug themselves a hole.

They now trail the Seattle Mariners 2 games to none in the American League Championship Series, losing both at home this weekend.

The teams travel to Seattle for games 3, 4 & 5; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Game 6 is back in Toronto on Sunday, if needed.

There’s a blood donor clinic today at the Dresden Ken Houston Arena in Dresden 10:30 to 2:30 p.m.

No walk-in appointments are available. Book your appointment at Blood.ca, call 1-888-2-DONATE or use the apps.

If you’re unable to donate this week, the next clinic locally will also be in Wallaceburg at the UAW Local – 251 hall on Tuesday, October 21st.

Happy birthday to the cell phone.

The modern cell phone turned 42 this yesterday.

It was introduced in Chicago and demonstrated in a call to Alexander Graham Bell’s grandson in Berlin, Germany. The 1983 phone’s price was $3,995. In 1990, there were just over 5 million people in the country with cell phones. By 2000, that number was nearly 110 million. Now, 97% of North Americans have cell phones or smart phones.
