Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Chatham-Kent and most of Southwestern Ontario.

Strong southwest winds will gust up 80 to 90 km/h beginning this morning and ending Thursday.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a safety bulletin for residents along Lake Erie. Wave heights could reach 1.5 to 2.5 metres in near shore areas with up to four metre waves on the open lake. People in the area are urged to use extra caution and avoid the shoreline if conditions worsen.

The high winds have cancelled all rides on the Pelee Island Ferry for today.


Today’s the day for the CKSY Toques & Mitts Mission, supporting the Chatham Goodfellows, is Wednesday.

Tomorrow is the American Thanksgiving.

Friday is Black Friday, many offline and online stores offer big sales for their customers.

This Friday is also Buy Nothing Day, which has been around since 1992. Instead of Black Friday shopping, you’re supposed to spend no money at all, and go do something fun that’s free.

Saturday is Small Business Saturday, which began as a marketing initiative to entice people to “shop small” and support local businesses during the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend.

Monday is Cyber Monday when online retailers offer discounts and Tuesday is Giving Tuesday when you’re asked to donate to your favourite charity.


The Chatham-Kent Budget Committee deliberations began last night.

The original budget called for a 4.92% hike, but after the meeting, that number went down to 3.96%.

Deliberations will continue tonight at 6 p.m. It will be aired live on the municipality’s Facebook and YouTube.
