November 3rd is the 307th day of the year. There are 58 days remaining until the end of the year.

The Chatham Goodfellows 71st year of providing food and toys to children and their families during the holidays is officially underway.

On Saturday, online applications opened for those people and families who have received food and gift baskets in the past. Next Monday first time applicants can begin applying by phone.

Last year, No Child Without A Christmas supported 1600 families with food and gift baskets. The organization raised over $227,000.

This year, the former Peavey Mart building will be used for packing and distribution.

Some key dates for the 2025 campaign:

  • December 1 – Porchlight Campaign: Residents are asked to donate money, toys or food when a volunteer comes to their door, or reach out to the Goodfellows at 519-354-1146 to arrange pick up.

November is Women Abuse Prevention Month.

The Chatham Kent Women’s Centre is asking us to wear purple or light up your homes or businesses purple to Shine the Light on violence against women. Purple represents courage, survival and honour of women who continue to move forward. When we wear or use the colour purple we are making a statement.

The Women’s Centre is selling scarves, ties, scrunchies, purple LED bulbs and string lights. All proceeds will benefit women and children effected by intimate partner abuse who seek services at the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.

To purchase go to CKWC.ca.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series Champions. Again.

The Dodgers beat the Blue Jays in Toronto in Game 6 and 7 to win back to back championships.

In an odd note, a player named Will Smith has won the World Series for the 6th straight season. The catcher Will Smith delivered the extra innings home run to win it for the Dodgers, his third (2020, 2024, 2025) championship. Pitcher Will Smith won it for the Braves in 2021, the Astros in 2022 and the Rangers in 2023.

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel celebrates its 95th anniversary today.

The tunnel opened November 3, 1930. It was constructed in 26 months using groundbreaking techniques, and at the time of its completion was the first and only underwater international vehicular tunnel in the world.

To this day it remains one of North America’s busiest border crossings, accommodating more than 12,000 vehicles daily.

The man who’s credited with inventing the frozen burrito in 1956 has passed away. His name was Duane Roberts, and he was 88.

The millionaire businessman died peacefully in his sleep.

After serving in the U.S. military, he went on to revolutionize the food industry with the frozen burrito in 1956. He was working at Butcher Boy Food Products in California, a meat company founded by his father, when, in the 1950s, he created the first frozen burrito as fast food became a part of the American diet. He eventually sold the company, an investor and became a real estate developer.

Fun fact — his stepchildren, Doug and Casey Reinhardt, both appeared on MTV’s The Hills.
