New numbers show homelessness in Ontario is getting worse. In 2025, about 85,000 people experienced homelessness, up nearly 8% from the year before. More than half of them have been without stable housing for six months or longer, and roughly 20,000 are children and youth. The report also highlights nearly 2,000 encampments across the province, with northern and rural regions seeing the biggest increases. Experts say without major investment in affordable and supportive housing, the crisis could continue to grow — potentially more than doubling by 2035. Officials are urging governments and communities to act now to prevent the situation from worsening.
