March Break begins for most students and staff when the bell rings this afternoon.

This is the last weekend of Winter. Spring will arrives on Friday, March 20th at 10:46 a.m.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for today – heavy winds will pick up this afternoon into the evening, gusts of 70 to 90 km/h possible. Cloudy most of the day today with showers or flurries and a high of 5°C.


It’s Friday the 13th. Considered the most unluckiest day on the calendar in Western society. In Italy, Friday the 17th is considered a day of bad luck.

Friday the 13th happens at least once every year but can’t occur any more than three times in the same year. We just had one last month, and we’ll have another in November.

Tomorrow is Pi Day. National Pi Day on March 14th recognizes the mathematical constant π. Also known as pi, the first three and most recognized digits are 3.14. The day is celebrated by pi fans and pie lovers! Pi is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and its diameter.


The 98th annual Academy Awards will be handed out Sunday. You can watch on ABC at 8 p.m.

Conan O’Brien will host.

The film Sinners leads the way with the most nominations.


The NCAA March Madness tournament gets rolling next week.

The 68-team field for both tournaments will be revealed on Selection Sunday, March 16th.

March Madness for the men’s tournament kicks off with the First Four games on Tuesday, the first round then begins on Thursday.

The women’s NCAA tournament begins with the First Four on March 18-19. The first round is March 20-21.

Experts are saying a fall in prices today as gasoline falls 8 cents a litre and diesel down 12 cents/litre.


The Labrador retriever is still the top dog in Canada.

The Canadian Kennel Club released its list of the 10 most popular purebred dog breeds in Canada for 2025 and the lab retriever, known for its friendliness and intelligence, tops the list for 32 straight years.

Next is the golden retriever in second place and the German shepherd in third. The organization says the poodle unseated the French bulldog for fourth place this year.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Australian shepherd, Havanese, Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Bernese mountain dog and Shetland sheepdog.
