The Artemis II mission made history yesterday with a record-breaking flyby of the Moon.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen and his three crewmates became the farthest-flying humans in history. The crew travelled farther from Earth than any humans ever — pushing past the distance record set during Apollo 13. Hansen is the first non-American to fly beyond low Earth orbit.

NASA says the Orion spacecraft went more than 406,000 kilometres from Earth during the flyby. During the flyby, the astronauts, in teams of two, took turns looking out the window of their space capsule while photographing and taking notes of the moon.

At one point, the spacecraft passed behind the Moon, causing a 40-minute communications blackout — completely cut off as the lunar surface blocks signals.

The mission wraps up with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on April 10th.

So who won your office pool? The Michigan Wolverines won the NCAA basketball title last night over UConn 69-63.

It’s the school’s second ever title, and their first in 37 years.
