5 Things You Need To Know For April 8, 2026
April 8, 2026 5:55 amApril 8th is the 98th day of the year. There are 267 days remaining until the end of the year.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire to allow negotiations to proceed with Iran last night.
With that, gas experts say that prices at the pumps should fall 12 cents/litre on Friday.

The 10th annual Hike for Hospice CK is back to raise funds in support of Hospice residents and their families in Chatham-Kent.
Today is the deadline to order Memorial Signs for the Hike Trail. You can go online now to purchase, and to register or donate to a team.
The hike is at Mud Creek Trail May 3rd. If you can’t make that date, come anytime between April 27 and May 2 to get your hike in.

Let the bridge wars begin! The Ambassador Bridge has lost its title to the Blue Water Bridge.

The Ambassador is no longer North America’s busiest crossing for truck traffic. For every month in 2025, the Blue Water Bridge surpassed the Ambassador Bridge, with about 2.1 million commercial truck trips at Sarnia compared to roughly 1.9 million at Windsor. The trend is continuing into this year, with almost 35,000 more crossings in Sarnia.
Tolls for commercial trucks at the Ambassador Bridge are the highest in the region — up to $27 per axle — almost four times the $7 per axle at Blue Water Bridge and the proposed $12 an axle rate for Gordie Howe, whenever it opens.

Starting on Friday the cost of a Lotto Max will rise, among other changes.
The cost of a ticket is set to rise from $5 to $6, while each ticket will now include four lines instead of three. Players will now choose seven numbers from 52, rather than 50.

Players will also see the introduction of additional $100,000-prizes tied to the size of the jackpot, similar to existing MaxMillion draws.
The maximum jackpot is also increasing, rising to $90 million from the current $80-million cap.

Canada’s Wonderland will have a new chaperone policy this season.
Anyone 15 and under will need to be with a chaperone aged 21 or older after 4 p.m. to enter or stay in the park. Each adult can supervise up to 10 kids, and must stay inside the park and be reachable at all times. The park says the rule could be enforced even earlier in the day if needed — and anyone who doesn’t follow it could be removed.
The move comes after past issues with fights and unruly behaviour. Wonderland opens to passholders May 1st, and to the public May 3rd.
