\"\"No more plastic bags at Sobeys<\/a> after today.<\/p>\n

All 255 Sobeys stores across Canada are switching from plastic to paper and reusable bags at checkout stands.<\/p>\n

\"\"The grocery chain, based in Nova Scotia, made the announcement in July 2019, calling it the first step in \u201cremoving unnecessary plastic from all retail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without plastic bags, customers will either need to bring their own bags or purchase an option at the store. Shoppers will pay 10 cents per paper bag, while the variety of reusable bags range from 99 cents to over $10.<\/p>\n

Sobeys estimates the move will eliminate 225 million plastic check stand bags \u2013 just over 1,200 tonnes \u2013 every year.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\" The Unicode Consortium<\/a> is the group that runs the official set of emojis, and they just announced the 117 new ones that will be hitting our phones this year.<\/p>\n

Some of the new emojis are: A yellow smiley face wearing Groucho Marx glasses, a ninja, blueberries, a seal,several different bugs, a rock, a tombstone, a feather,a roller skate, a flip-flop, an accordion, a magic wand and a fondue pot.<\/p>\n

A boomerang, a toothbrush, a needle and thread, a ladder, a toilet plunger, an actual human heart, a hook, a pi\u00f1ata and a hand making a pinching gesture.<\/p>\n

The emojis also focus heavily on gender. They’ve added the transgender flag and transgender symbol, along with non-gendered versions of a person in a tux, a person in a wedding dress, a person feeding a baby, and Santa Claus.<\/p>\n

\"\"The Bell Let’s Talk<\/a> initiative set a record for most interactions, with over 150,000,000 yesterday.<\/p>\n

The totals aren’t all in yet, but in it’s 10th year more texts, tweets and video views were shared than any other year. The funds raised support mental health programs across Canada.<\/p>\n

\"\"Many celebrities showed their support on social media, including newest Canadians, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex<\/a>, Harry and Meghan Markle.<\/p>\n

They recently stepped back from the Royal Family and moved part-time to Canada, and shared a series of photos on Instagram using the hashtag #BellLetsTalk.<\/p>\n

The royal account shared six photos of various people holding signs promoting the campaign.<\/p>\n
