\"\"The Royal Canadian Mint<\/a> announced yesterday that a toonie is going into circulation to celebrate Team Canada’s victory over Team USSR in the 1972 Summit Series.<\/p>\n

That game was played 50 years ago Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\"\"This coin features a design by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel and the inner core has two Team Canada hockey players on the team’s maple leaf jersey emblem framed by “The Series” and “50 Years.” The coaches’ initials and the jersey numbers of every player surround the core. The profile of Queen Elizabeth II is still on the obverse side of the coin.<\/p>\n

Three million 50th Anniversary Summit Series coins have been minted and two million of those feature a fully coloured inner core. Those that aren’t coloured red, white and black have the classic gold inner core that other toonies have.<\/p>\n

All of the toonies went into circulation on September 28th.<\/p>\n

On September 28, 1972, Canadians were united by sport unlike ever before.<\/p>\n

Fifty years later, we celebrate this historic hockey event and @TeamCanada1972<\/a> with a new commemorative $2 circulation coin.<\/p>\n

\"\"M&M\u2019S<\/a> is adding a brand new character to the mix; Purple. She\u2019s peanut, she sings, and she doesn\u2019t wear high heels (she sports lace-up boots). Purple has a specific personality \u2014 quirky, confident and just a little awkward.<\/p>\n

\"\"The purple peanut M&M is the first new character in 10 years.<\/p>\n

However, this doesn\u2019t mean that a purple M&M is coming to bags of Peanut M&M\u2019S. The new character will appear in stores, on the M&M\u2019S website and on some limited edition packaging,<\/p>\n

In the mid-90s, people voted for blue to replace tan in bags of the candy. In 2002, M&M\u2019S once again asked people to vote, this time for a colour that would be added for just a limited time. Purple won, but didn\u2019t stick around for long.
