\"\"\"\"Night two of 2023 Budget talks ended with a slight increase last night.<\/p>\n

A .03% increase up to 5.61% was added last night, or about a $176 increase on this year\u2019s average property tax bill.<\/p>\n

Budget deliberations continue tonight in council chambers at the Civic Centre at 6pm. Tomorrow evening is also set aside if more talks are needed.<\/p>\n

All budget meetings will be live-streamed on the Municipality’s Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t until December of 1995 that the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada, following a motion introduced by the Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament.<\/p>\n

Once considered a destination for freedom seekers, Chatham-Kent is home to some of the most successful Black settlements in Canadian History.<\/p>\n

The Buxton National Historic Site & Museum<\/a>,\u00a0Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum<\/a> and the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History<\/a> are all hosting events this month beginning with a flag-raising at the Civic Centre on King Street, starting at noon.<\/p>\n

Reservations at Ontario Parks<\/a> are available online or by phone up to five months in advance of your arrival date. This means that to camp on Canada Day, reservations are available as of this morning at 7am.<\/p>\n

If you want to camp at popular parks like Algonquin, Bon Echo, Killbear, Pinery, and Sandbanks, you should reserve as early as possible.<\/p>\n

\n

At select parks, we\u2019ll be reducing the maximum length of stay from 23 nights to 7 or 14 nights for campground sites during our busiest camping season.<\/p>\n

This applies to trips between July 1 and the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend.<\/p>\n
