\"\"The annual Lyrid meteor shower is peaking this weekend.<\/p>\n

Known for its fast and bright meteors, the Lyrids will peak Saturday night, with an estimated 18 meteors, travelling up to 47 kilometres per second, able to be viewed each hour.<\/p>\n

The Lyrids have been observed for 2,700 years and their first recorded sighting dates back to 687 BC by the Chinese.<\/p>\n

If there’s a clear sky Saturday evening, you should be able to see one shooting star every three to four minutes.<\/p>\n

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions the globe, annually every April 22nd to promote awareness for the health of our environment. The first ever earth day was 1970.<\/p>\n

Before 1970, there were basically no laws protecting the environment. Factories could pump out as much smoke as they wanted, or dump toxic waste in rivers, and it was perfectly legal. Earth Day helps raise awareness for environmental causes. According to EarthDay.org, the first Earth Day helped pass the Clean Water Act, and also got U.S. President Nixon to create the Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"Twitter<\/a> began a purge of blue verification check marks from users who have not signed up for its subscription service on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Thousands of blue checks disappearing from the accounts of journalists, academics and celebrities. The blue check marks disappeared from the accounts of some of the most well-known and widely followed people on the social network, including Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Bill Gates, Pope Francis, former president Donald Trump and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.<\/p>\n

Twitter had said it would begin removing the verification granted under its old system on April 1st. In order to stay verified, users would have to pay $8 per month to join the Twitter Blue subscription service, which has allowed accounts to pay for verification since December.<\/p>\n

Some celebrities have been offered a complimentary Twitter Blue subscription. Elon Musk said he’s “personally” paying for a few Twitter Blue subscriptions for celebrities; William Shatner, LeBron James, and Stephen King.<\/p>\n
