The idea of a special day to honour fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced in the United States. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother’s Day celebrations and planned a day to honour fathers early in the 20th century. The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910.<\/p>\n

Father\u2019s Day is observed on the third Sunday of June.<\/p>\n

Normally you would require an Ontario Outdoors Card in addition to the license to be able to catch fish in the province, neither of which are required this weekend.<\/p>\n

Ontario holds free fishing dates four times a year; Family Day weekend, Mother’s Day Weekend and a full Free Fishing Week happening from July 1-9 this summer.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"Canada will reach a new milestone today as the population hits a record 40 million people.<\/p>\n

Statistics Canada<\/a>‘s Population Clock \u2014 a tool that track real-time growth using factors such as births, deaths and migration \u2014 will reach the 40-million mark just before 3pm.<\/p>\n

Canada leads the G7 in population growth, with the country adding more than one million people between January 2021 and 2022 for the most ever in a single year. Last year’s annual population growth rate of 2.7% is the highest on record since 1957 when it was 3.3 per cent. At that time, a high number of births occurred during the post-war baby boom.<\/p>\n

Permanent and temporary migration is largely driving this latest trend \u2014 both accounted for 96 per cent of all growth in 2022. Every province and territory, with the exception of the Northwest Territories, saw their populations increase last year.<\/p>\n
