\"\"\"\"The Bank of Canada<\/a> has raised its benchmark interest rate by another 25 basis points Wednesday. The key interest rate now stands at 5% following back-to-back hikes.<\/p>\n

That’s the highest it\u2019s been since 2001. The Bank of Canada says the rate increase was necessary to help slow economic growth and reduce core inflation.<\/p>\n

Raising the interest rate increases the cost of borrowing for Canadians, particularly for homeowners renewing their mortgages or those with variable-rate loans that see payments rise in line with the central bank\u2019s benchmark rate.<\/p>\n

The Bank of Canada\u2019s next rate decision comes down September 6th.<\/p>\n

Cherryfest is one of Chatham-Kent’s longest-running and oldest festivals. It’s been a yearly tradition since the ’80s.<\/p>\n

World\u2019s Finest Shows is handling the midway. The Blenheim Youth Centre has again teamed up with Parks Blueberries to bake pies this year, while local business A Taste of Home is also baking pies. Sidewalk sales, entertainment capped off with the Canadian Cherry Pit Spit competition on Saturday beginning at 1.<\/p>\n
