The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S)<\/a> made the announcement on Tuesday. This was expected after climate records were repeatedly broken. Since June, every month has been the world’s hottest on record compared with the corresponding month in previous years.<\/p>\n

2023 was the hottest year in global temperature records going back to 1850. On average, in 2023 the planet was 1.48 degrees Celsius warmer than in the 1850-1900 pre-industrial period, when humans began burning fossil fuels on an industrial scale, pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Last year was 0.17C hotter than 2016, the previous hottest year.<\/p>\n

The sweet, square-shaped treat speckled with raisins dates back to 1964 but was taken off the menu in the early 2000s. It made a short-lived reappearance in 2017 for Canada’s 150th anniversary.<\/p>\n
