Keep an eye out for students and buses on the roads today.<\/p>\n<p>Mostly cloudy skies for day one, the humidity will make it feel like 30.<\/p>\n<p>With kids going back to school, some safety tips for students, drivers and bus drivers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Slow down.\u00a0Speed limits in school zones are reduced for a reason.<\/li>\n<li>Come to a complete stop.\u00a0Research shows that more than one-third of drivers roll through stop signs in school zones or neighborhoods. Always come to a complete stop, checking carefully for children on sidewalks and in crosswalks before proceeding.<\/li>\n<li>Eliminate distractions.\u00a0Research shows that taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds doubles your chances of crashing.<\/li>\n<li>Share the road with bicyclists.\u00a0Children on bicycles are often inexperienced, unsteady and unpredictable. Slow down and allow at least three feet of passing distance between your vehicle and a bicyclist.<\/li>\n<li>Talk to your teen.\u00a0Car crashes are one of the leading causes of death for teens, and nearly one in four fatal crashes involving teen drivers occurs during the after-school hours of 3p.m. to 7p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For Pedestrians:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pay attention at all times.\u00a0Avoid texting or wearing headphones, so you can detect nearby traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Use sidewalks\u00a0where available. If not, walk against the direction of traffic so you can see oncoming vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Make yourself easier to be seen\u00a0by wearing reflective, bright coloured clothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For Bicyclists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wear a helmet and neon or bright colored clothes.<\/li>\n<li>Ride in the same direction as traffic\u00a0and stay as far to the right as possible. Use bike lanes when you can.<\/li>\n<li>Do not wear headphones\u00a0so you can detect approaching traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Cross the street at intersections.\u00a0Do not pull into the roadway from between parked cars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For Students at the Bus Stop:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrive at least 5 minutes before\u00a0the bus is scheduled to arrive.<\/li>\n<li>Stay five steps away from the curb.<\/li>\n<li>Be alert and remove headphones\u00a0so you can hear oncoming traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop\u00a0and the bus driver signals for you to board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-406 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bri-web-app-wordpress\/2018\/09\/fd341b29-cksy_5_things_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"59\" height=\"74\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-27522\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.briwebapp.net\/2022\/08\/da376875-chatham-kent-public-library-ckpl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"70\" \/>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chatham-kent.ca\/library\/Pages\/default.aspx\" rel=\"noopener\">Chatham-Kent Public Library<\/a> is once again running their Grows Seed Library, beginning today.<\/p>\n<p>The Seed Library will offer a variety native plant seeds for many popular local plants.<\/p>\n<p>The seed library provides free seeds for residents to borrow so they can grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable flowers to create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and communities.
