\"\"\"\"The Chatham Goodfellows<\/a> Porchlight campaign was a success last night.<\/p>\n

Volunteers were spread throughout the community collecting cash, toys and food to make sure No Child is Without a Christmas this season; close to $57,000<\/span> in cash was collected this year!<\/p>\n

The Porchlight fundraiser is important because it helps purchase vital items for the food hampers that are given to families in need, like turkeys, hams and bags of milk.<\/p>\n

You can donate by mailing a cheque to P.O. Box 114 Chatham ON N7M 5K1 or by e-transfer at donate@chathamgoodfellows.ca<\/a> to receive an automatic receipt.<\/p>\n

It’s been around for 12 years. It was launched in 2012 as a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities.” It was actually started by three tech companies: Mashable, Skype, and Cisco.<\/p>\n

\"\"Locally, the James A. Beattie Foundation will match all Giving Tuesday donations today to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation<\/a>, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000. The money will go towards replacing a Fluoroscopy machine at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Go to ckhaf.ca\/giving-tuesday<\/a> to make a donation.<\/p>\n

Today marks the 12th anniversary of the first Giving Tuesday in 2012. More than 85 countries are involved now. It is predicted that almost $3.5 billion will be given today.<\/p>\n
