The week long Spring Break will lighten local traffic around schools.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA)<\/a>\u00a0flood watch has been downgraded to a flood outloook.<\/p>\n

An ice sheet from the Thames River jammed up the mouth at Lighthouse Cove, but it has mostly washed out to the lake.<\/p>\n

The LTVCA is still reminding residents to take extra caution to avoid the river, ditches, and streams because of a combination of slippery banks and broken ice on fast-moving cold water.<\/p>\n

\"\"The world\u2019s biggest iceberg has run aground just off the coast of a remote Antarctic island.<\/p>\n

The iceberg identified as “A23a” weighs nearly one trillion tonnes and covers roughly 3,300-square-kilometres. It has been drifting north from Antarctica towards South Georgia island since 2020. There were fears it would collide with the island and disrupt the penguins and seals hunting food to feed their young. Now scientists believe that it may boost food availability for the whole ecosystem. The island is home to around five million seals and 65 million birds from 30 different species.<\/p>\n

Satellite images show that the edge of the iceberg stopped more than 70 kilometres from the island in late February. It remains unclear whether the iceberg is stuck for good.<\/p>\n

\"\"Don’t forget that clocks spring ahead one hour this weekend. Always on the second Sunday in March at 2 a.m. Daylight Saving Time will stick around until the first Sunday in November at 2 a.m.<\/p>\n

Before you go to bed on Saturday, make sure to manually set any analog clocks and watches in your home an hour ahead, otherwise you’ll be late for brunch on Sunday. Your digital and Wi-Fi connected devices should make the switch automatically, but it doesn\u2019t hurt to double-check.<\/p>\n

Yukon, most of Saskatchewan and some parts of B.C. and Quebec don\u2019t have to do anything, as they stay on standard time year-round.\u00a0The debate over ending Daylight Saving Time has been kicking around for decades now. In 2020, Ontario passed a bill to make DST permanent, but it’s waiting for New York and Quebec to join first; and their hasn\u2019t been much movement on their part.<\/p>\n

U.S. President Trump and Elon Musk are for ending the time change. In December, Trump said that “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time.\u201d But yesterday, he said it isn’t a priority.<\/p>\n

Chatham-Kent Fire Department<\/a> always reminds us to check the batteries in our smoke detectors whenever we change the clocks.<\/p>\n

If you love the later sunsets, as of Sunday we won’t see another sunset before 7 p.m. until September 30; That’s six long months to soak in the brighter days.<\/p>\n
