\"\"Roman Catholic cardinals from around the world will gather at the Vatican today to start the process of electing a successor to the late Pope Francis.<\/p>\n

Only cardinals under the age of 80 are allowed to vote in a papal election. After each round of voting in the conclave, white smoke will emerge from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel if a pope has been elected and black smoke if he has not.<\/p>\n

The last two conclaves \u2014 held in 2005 to elect Pope Benedict XVI and in 2013 to elect Pope Francis \u2014 lasted two days.<\/p>\n
