It happened at 7:15 a.m. because of something called \u201castronomical twilight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At that exact moment, 83% of populated areas are in full daylight, including Africa, Europe, and most of Asia. Meanwhile, 7% are in twilight, where the sun is rising or setting. And 6% are in \u201cnautical twilight,\u201d where it\u2019s basically dark.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining 3% are in \u201castronomical twilight,\u201d where the sun is well below the horizon. So to the human eye, it\u2019s dark out. But there\u2019s still a tiny bit of indirect light that only matters if you\u2019re looking at stuff through a telescope. Only 93% of us can actually see any light at that moment. But technically, just 1% are looking at a totally dark sky, mostly in Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-54688 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bri-web-app-wordpress\/2018\/09\/63a1a3cf-cksy_5_things_4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"65\" height=\"90\" \/>It&#8217;s National Macaroni Day!<\/p>\n<p>This little elbow-shaped pasta is such a fan-favourite, and one of the most common forms of pasta. So it&#8217;s a day to show our love for the humble and versatile macaroni.<\/p>\n<p>The origins of pasta, and macaroni, are not very clear. Records indicate pasta might have originated in China, instead of in Italy as is commonly believed.<\/p>\n<p>National Mac and Cheese Day is celebrated on July 14 each year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-54689 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bri-web-app-wordpress\/2018\/09\/3a9171bb-cksy_5_things_5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"56\" height=\"89\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6458 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bri-web-app-wordpress\/2019\/07\/1fe1b515-nathans-hot-dog-eating-contest_orig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"70\" height=\"84\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joeyjaws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joey Chestnut<\/a> reclaimed the Mustard Belt for a 17th time at <a href=\"https:\/\/nathansfamous.com\/hot-dog-eating-contest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest<\/a> on the Fourth of July.<\/p>\n<p>Joey scarfed down a total of 70-and-a-half hot dogs in 10 minutes. He didn&#8217;t beat his own personal record though, which he set in 2021 with 76.<\/p>\n<p>He missed last year&#8217;s competition due to a conflict of interest over a sponsorship with a vegan hot dog brand.<\/p>\n<p>Joey still won by a landslide though.
