The 153rd Open Championship — known outside the UK as the British Open — begins today at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. The Open wraps up golf\u2019s major season, it is one of the four Grand Slam golf tournaments (The Masters Tournament, U.S. Open Championship, The Open Championship and U.S. PGA Championship)<\/p>\n

The British Open winner receives what is commonly known as the claret jug but is officially named the Golf Champion Trophy. It first was awarded in 1873 and since 1928, the British Open winner gets to keep the original for one year before returning it and receiving a replica. Xander Schauffele was last years winner. The 2025 champion will take home over $3.1 million.<\/p>\n
