The countdown is on until the FIFA World Cup comes to Canada<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday marked 100 days until the games come to the City of Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada will play its first game of the international soccer tournament in Toronto on June 12. Their opponent, however, is still to be decided. Toronto will host a total of six games in addition to games played in Vancouver, Mexico and the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tens of thousands of visitors<\/a> are expected in Toronto throughout the month of June and city staff says traffic is expected to be about \u201c10 per cent\u201d worse on downtown corridors during the competition. The city is expected to announce a traffic plan sometime this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FIFA says last-minute sales will begin in early April, when tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. It also has its own ticket resale and exchange marketplace, which is currently closed but slated to reopen on April 2. Tickets are also available on resale sites. The lowest price for a ticket to the June 12 game in Toronto? $3,713 each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 500 million ticket requests were submitted during FIFA’s random selction draw application process that was held in late 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Winter Paralympics<\/a> open today in Milan-Cortina and close on March 15th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony marks the start of 10 days of competition, with about 665 athletes from around the world competing in 79 medal events across six sport. This year the Games are celebrating 50 years of the Winter Paralympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada\u2019s flag bearers for the 2026 Winter Paralympics opening ceremony are Tyler McGregor and Natalie Wilkie. McGregor is from Forest, and now lives in Windsor. He’s the captain of Canada\u2019s para ice hockey team. Wilkie is one of the world\u2019s top para nordic skiers from B.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coverage of the opening ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. on CBC and CBC Gem<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s International Women\u2019s Day on Sunday, part of Women\u2019s History Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Women\u2019s Day was first suggested at a 1910 women\u2019s conference in Copenhagen by activist Clara Zetkin. The first \u201cIWD\u201d was observed in Germany the next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a national holiday in China and Russia, where female workers are presented with flowers and gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme this year is: Give To Gain. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget that clocks spring ahead one hour this weekend. Always on the second Sunday in March at 2 a.m. Daylight Saving Time will stick around until the first Sunday in November at 2 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you go to bed on Saturday, make sure to manually set any analog clocks and watches in your home an hour ahead, otherwise you\u2019ll be late for brunch on Sunday. Your digital and Wi-Fi connected devices should make the switch automatically, but it doesn\u2019t hurt to double-check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
