It is National Volunteer Week<\/a> across Canada. A time to celebrate and thank Canada’s 24 million volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n

Last week, the Canadian average for a litre of gas was just over $1.77, up from $1.26 before the United States and Israel launched their attacks on Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the government will temporarily remove the federal excise tax on gas and diesel \u2014 that will cut the cost of gasoline by 10 cents per litre and four cents per litre of diesel starting today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll find out this week how much that will help, because this is when manufacturers switch from a winter blend of gasoline to a summer blend. The changes in temperature require the components of gas to be altered between seasons. The summer blend is a cleaner and more fuel-efficient product that also translates to higher prices at the pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 130th Boston Marathon<\/a> is today. Over 30,000 runners scheduled to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locals Scott MacLeod and Brooke Macleod (Chatham) Brian Horrobin and Victoria Horrobin (Wallaceburg) are competing. (Did we miss anyone? <a href=”http:\/\/Let us know!<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are some internet rumours that had pop star Harry Styles competing – he is not registered \u2014 at least under his own name. In Belin in September he ran under an assumed the name \u201cSted Sarandos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boston Marathon is popular because it is the world’s oldest annual marathon (since 1897) and a bucket-list race for runners. The marathon starts just after 9 a.m. this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happy 420!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

420 is an international celebration on the 20th day of the fourth month, during which people come together to consume cannabis and advocate for its legalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The term most likely originated in the 1970s with a group of California teens who used \u201c4:20\u201d as a code to meet after school and smoke. It later spread through connections to the Grateful Dead and grew into a global event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
