The Gordie Howe International Bridge<\/a> is finally ready to open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2.5-kilometre, six-lane span connecting Windsor and Detroit opens to vehicle traffic today at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Named after the Canadian hockey legend, the $6.4 billion project was funded by Canada, with construction costs to be repaid through toll revenue. The bridge features North America’s longest cable-stayed main span at 853 metres and is expected to ease congestion at one of the continent’s busiest trade corridors. Pedestrians and cyclists will get access starting August 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Seattle Police Department<\/a> is searching for two men who parachuted off the Space Needle<\/a> Friday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pair bought tickets, went to the observation deck, put on helmets in a washroom, then climbed over the glass barrier before BASE jumping from the 605-foot landmark. Security lost sight of where they landed, and police haven’t found them. The men, believed to be in their late 20s, could face trespassing charges. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers<\/a> finally put an end to their nine-game losing streak, picking up a pair of wins over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The streak ended Friday night with an 8-1 victory over the Guelph Royals. Guelph answered back on Saturday, defeating the Barnstormers 8-4 at home, before Chatham-Kent bounced back Sunday with an 11-7 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two victories weren’t enough to lift the Barnstormers out of the Canadian Baseball League<\/a> basement, but they’ll have another opportunity to climb the standings with three games over the long weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barnstormers manager Dom Dinelle joins CKMORNINGS for In the Dugout on Tuesday at 8:40 a.m. to break down the weekend, look ahead to the upcoming games, and give away tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internet’s favourite little monkey just celebrated a big milestone – Punch, the orphaned Japanese macaque who went viral after being seen cuddling an orangutan stuffed animal for comfort, turned one year old on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His story captured hearts around the world, and the zoo received about 2,500 birthday cards and messages from fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news for Punch is that he has now settled in with the other monkeys and doesn’t rely on his plush toy anymore\u2014but he’s still gets lots of attention at Japan’s Ichikawa City Zoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
