The Gordie Howe International Bridge<\/a> officially opened to traffic on Monday, marking a historic new link between Windsor and Detroit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gordie Howe, the grandson of \u201cMr. Hockey,\u201d and his wife Margaret were the first to cross around 9:45 a.m., roughly two hours before the public was allowed onto the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The six-lane crossing provides a direct highway connection between Highway 401 and Interstate 75, improving one of North America’s busiest trade corridors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The standard one-way toll for a passenger vehicle crossing the Gordie Howe International Bridge is $8. Commercial vehicles are charged $12 per axle. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the multi-use path free of charge, when it opens August 5th.<\/p>\n\n\n

The celebration starts Tuesday (August 4) at 5:30 p.m. at the Wheatley Legion with a parade and Cup blessing, followed by a public photo opportunity from 6 until 8 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Memorial Cup is one of hockey’s most prestigious trophies. The Kitchener Rangers won the 2026 Canadian Hockey League title in Kelowna in May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
